few things to think about...

What is your response to these?

In essentials -> unity
In non-essentials -> liberty
In all things -> love.

“In the beginning the church was a fellowship of men and women
centering on the living Christ. Then the church moved to Greece,
where it became a philosophy. Then it moved to Rome,
where it became an institution. Next, it moved to Europe,
where it became a culture. And, finally, it moved
to America, where it became an enterprise.”

- Rev. Richard Halvorson, former chaplain to the U.S. Senate

Very good quotes, BOTH of them!! The latter one I had never heard before. I thought it was so descriptive with Rome and institution and the enterprise with America - that gave me a chuckle even! So true...

To your question...I think it'd be good to look at what is a philosophy, what is an institution, what is an enterprise? (Like in general, "secularly"..what do they mean?) And then to distinguish those elements out of the real thing and look at what's left in faith. (=?) Personally I have started to seriously question that institutionalism that Rome brought.
