Beauty.
Awhile ago a friend told me, after searching for words for a moment
that I looked what they called "radiantly satisfied"
that evening. I think that is one of the best compliments I have received for
some time. That is what beauty for me often is, when beauty speaks to me most.
It's most powerful when you can't quite describe it in words, when you can't quite put
your finger on it, but it is something that momentarily captures and captivates,
makes you feel that everything is going to be well, breathtaking but
also very mundane and yet radiant, contagious.
Beauty can be physical, it can be spiritual, it can be in a connection between
two things, two people, two elements. Beauty is an extra step that a friend
walked to encourage you, a wild leap of faith, courage that someone showed
in defending others and standing against injustice, beauty can be words that
make you cry when they sink in to your heart, smile from a stranger or chords played with skill.
Beauty changes, reflects, glows, shimmers and shines, matures and is born again.
Beauty forgives plenty. Beauty laughs with things not for them.
Authentic beauty is true and raw and doesn't seek for it's own glory but
shines on and loves those around it. Gentle beauty is loving and caring.
Authentic beauty is wild, inviting and calling, it calls to seek it's mysteries.
My brother Jack used a quote which says that women are the most beautiful
when they know they are loved.
Although sometimes we hide in to beauty as a defence,
I think it is still true.
"Is beauty a perspective
merely how we look at things
or a matter defined by your eyes
in a figure, posture or position
or is it when we are blind
is it safe or tamed or commanded
let out to please or tease
a power, a gift or a curse
painfully compared"
